Before you can have your RTM home installed, there are a few steps you need to take to ensure your new house can be installed correctly (and legally). Keep reading below for the RTM installation checklist from Blue Hills Construction!
Why Choose an RTM Home?
RTM and modular homes have become popular in recent years, particularly in rural areas. Nowadays, not everyone has the time or money for a traditional home build. RTM homes only take 3-6 months to build and are much cheaper than on-site construction.
RTMs also offer environmentally conscious homeowners several ways to embrace sustainable living. At Blue Hills, we ensure our homes are energy-efficient and cost-effective by closely following Canadian insulation codes. We exceed these standards by building with materials that provide additional insulation, such as insulated siding and triple-pane windows.
For added efficiency, homeowners can add energy-saving features like solar panels and heat pumps to their RTM homes. Our builds are also fully customizable – if our three standard RTM models don’t fit your preferences, our designers will work with you to provide interior and exterior features that suit your personal style and needs!
Pre-Installation Checklist for RTM Homes
Before our team can transport and install an RTM home on your property, there are a few steps you need to take before making a purchase and after the construction of your home is underway. These steps include the following:
- Have your financing in order: You must have We cannot start construction until our customers have their funds in line, so make sure you have adequately secured financing to cover the full cost of your build. You can contact our team to find out more about our pricing and get an estimate for the model you’d like to buy!
- Check that your land is in your name: Before we can break ground on your basement and/or foundation, your property title must be in your legal name.
- Make sure the land is level: To prevent any structural issues with your home, make sure the area where you wish to install it is level and safe to break ground.
- Suitable road access: Your RTM home is a big haul, and we need the road space to haul it! Before your home delivery, make sure there are no obstructions or issues on the road that could prevent us from driving in or causing damage to the RTM structure.
How Long Does the Installation Process Take?
Our team at Blue Hills is focused on getting your home set up and move-in ready as soon as possible! The basement construction will take about 2 weeks to complete. Once the basement is finished and the walls are set, the installation of your RTM model will take about one full workday. Once installed, we’ll return in about 2-3 weeks to do a warranty walkthrough with you and fix any small shifting issues. In most cases, our customers move into their new homes within a month!
Note that you will be responsible for the utility hookups in the main portion of your RTM model. After the home is installed, you’ll need to hire HVAC specialists to install your plumbing, heating, and electricity.
